10 Activities for The Biggest Valentine Ever

The Biggest Valentine Ever by Steven Kroll is just the cutest Valentine book! If you’ve never read the book, it is an adorable story about two mice, Desmond and Clayton, who want to make a valentine for their teacher. At the beginning, they can’t quite agree on how to do this right, but as the story ends, the two friends learn that working together is important!

I can’t wait to share 10 activities for The Biggest Valentine Ever that I use in my classroom that go right along with this adorable valentine story!

I use these Biggest Valentine Ever activities as stations. My class and I have so much fun spending the entire day completing these activities. We read the book, eat a snack, and have a ton of fun with these stations and activities! The stations are engaging, fun, and full of literacy skills, math skills, and STEM skills! I love using The Biggest Valentine Ever station day the day of our friendship party! It is a great way to keep students engaged!

This activity is a fun one! Students will guess how many candy hearts they think they will need to cover the entire outer edge of each heart. Then students will use candy hearts to get the actual amount. My students loved seeing how close their guess was to the actual amount! Don’t forget to enjoy tasting some candy hearts too!

The Biggest Valentine Ever Activity #2

Valentine Graphing

The next Biggest Valentine Ever activity is a spin and graph activity. Students will use a pencil and a paperclip to spin the graph. Then they will color in a square on the graph each time they spin. I like to let my students use fun valentine colors to complete the graph. You may want to have your students use a different color for each picture. After they are done spinning and graphing, they will answer a few questions about their graph.

Let’s Create - An addition and Subtraction Game

This might be my favorite activity for the Biggest Valentine Ever! Let’s Create is an addition and subtraction game where students race around a game board trying to collect all the craft supplies they need to create their Valentine’s Day card. The first player will grab an addition or subtraction card and solve it. Then, they will use a paperclip and pencil to spin and move that many spaces. If they land on a craft supply square, they will stop on the square and pick up their supplies and add it to their individual game board. The player who collects all their supplies first, wins! So FUN!

Let’s Make a Match is a fun sight word game! In the story, The Biggest Valentine Ever, Clayton and Desmond learned that working together is a much smarter choice! Students will play this sight word game, by selecting two cards and reading the cards. You can add your very own sight words or spelling words to the cards! If the cards match, they will keep the cards. If the cards do not match, they will flip them back over. The player with the most matches wins!
